GRANDMOTHER’S WINDOW
If you keep up with my musings and social media you know this year has been hijacked by a cute little baby boy. I’ve slowly been getting myself into the studio and starting to create. Even if it’s at a small scale and nothing that I can say omg this is my best piece ever. At least I’m getting back to art.
With not creating much means, I haven’t really been exhibiting. Most of my latest series was for my solo show last year, Fragments and it was such a great turnout that a big part of my work I exhibited sold. I like to have new artwork to enter in a juried show.
The way I work, I never just make one version of a piece. There is always a different technique, medium or style but always more versions. Grandmother’s Window is that, a different version of a piece from my show titled, The Window, which sold the opening night of my show.
I decided to enter this piece to the Visual Arts Alliance juried exhibit open call. It is still unseen by the public. The piece was selected by the juror Cindy Lisica of Cindy Lisica Gallery.
Now people will get a chance to see this piece that I thought I was making for myself, I ended up making a completely different one. Fragments was a very personal series and for those that got a chance to hear me talk about what the keys pieces meant to me, you know this is just as intimate. This is the fragment of a childhood memory of my grandparent’s window back in Guatemala, this window was used by my grandmother to sell candy and snacks she made to neighborhood children.
