OFFICIAL VACATION FOR MY LITTLE BOY ON THE GO

I finally got a chance to finish our summer (any season or reason ) bucket list. I call it ours but it’s for my little guy. Last year A few years ago was my first time putting a bucket list together, and I think it was more of a generic list that anyone can do. This year I started thinking about it earlier and trying to be true to us, my life and what his life is with a mom artist. That is how I took more of a creative approach to our list.

READING PROGRAM

I have a little bookworm, even if he doesn’t knows how to read only to himself or quietly. I want books to be part of his life, they are tools to learn, enjoy and better yourself in so many ways. I was just telling a fellow mom how reading helped me tremendously, it improves your vocabulary, expands your word comprehension and it has writing benefits too. Win win all around.

There are reading programs but he’s still too little, so we just put it on our schedule to go to the library every week or two. He loves spending time at the children’s section at the library playing. While he does that with Daddy I go get my books and pick a few books for him. (Due to Covid we have been ordering books online and drive through pick up)

ART DAYS, MUSEUMS & GALLERIES

With his mom being an artist he will definitely have a close relationship to the art world. It doesn’t mean he has to be an artist, I just want him to be able to appreciate art. Although this is part of his life, not just the summer. I made sure we made a more conscious effort to make regular museum visits on his breaks or days off.

Luckily several artist friends have art openings, works in shows and we have so many open studios here in Houston that there is always a place to go. He also gets to see art when we travel. He got to experience the Polar Bear exhibit in Guatemala which had a polar bear from every country. One of his favorite was the interactive Van Gogh exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. He got to touch the Starry Night sky, hang with Van Gogh and his sunflowers and made mommy an art piece.

CREATIVE PLAYDATES

Playdates are a must with your little ones, but I think quality playdates are that much more important. This summer season, playdates will be a little different, and hope my creative moms are around for them. Especially after the quarantine we experienced last year.

This is harder to plan than I thought. My few moms friends are kind of spread out and our kids are still small, this means shorter windows of opportunities. One of our most memorable play dates was six kids under one roof. All of us mothers have been friends since middle and high school. Let’s say it was hard to get one good photograph of ALL of them behaving.

DANCE, DANCE & DANCE SOME MORE

Recently This little child of mine has discovered dancing. He hasn’t quite gotten perfected his dancing legs but he loves to dance to live music, in our arms. I want to expose him to different types of music.

I found several ways to attempt this, even if it didn’t mean dancing. He just loves music. Some of the places was dinner with live music, parties with live bands and concerts in the park.

COLORFUL ROAD TRIP

Road trips are always expected in this household, whether it’s budget or you know or world pandemic. Our little boy has been taking road trips since he was two months old. He’s so used to them now that he is always watching his daddy drive wondering where the next adventure is.

As much as summers all seasons are perfect for road trips, this year taught us to take advantage of the little things, even if it comes with heat, or cold.

FIND COLOR

This was something I felt before I didn’t have to add. Maybe because it was a given that if you live in a city or town with color or beautiful landscape that you can always have fun. (we just take it for granted) This is something some of us learned to appreciate more during a time when our lives got put on hold.

We live in Houston, where we have plenty of spots filled with outdoor art, color, murals, etc. I made sure we took advantage of this during our time off more than the past years.

Creative Mother Bucketlist

HOW SUMMERS CHANGE

When you welcome a child to your life, it all changes, as in your entire life. Summers Vacations are different, at a completely slower pace and does not necessarily include learning. A child changes you for the best, to make you a person to help guide and structure their lives. We are lucky! Now let’s make their summer vacation one to remember, take lots of photos in case they don’t remember!

Definitely starting early with next year’s list. I’m brainstorming for ideas.
  • First international flight (in case we don’t go before next summer due to restrictions)
  • Play or an opera (for children, maybe)
  • Collaboration piece of art

What is on your bucket list? Let’s help each other creative moms!
